I am an abject failure at getting to bed early.

Some of this is Rusketus's fault: he is a dear little thing but full of boundless kitten energy, which means someone has to chase him and wave string toys and throw balls up and down the hallway, and it's certainly not Cookie or Monster. I have no idea how parents do it.

Tonight I was finishing a piece of embroidery I am doing for a friend when he decided to savage some of the goldwork. Happily, it was fixable.

Earlier I found him perched on top of the 3m+ fence that sections off the cat run: he had clearly jumped onto the frame from the top of the hammock steps that lead down from the house window and shimmied the one-metre-plus section of narrow framing timber to the top. From here, he could plummet to his doom on the pavers below, jump fairly easily onto the neighbours' roof, or leap into a mature camellia bush and make a bid for freedom.

I helped to raise one of my nephews. A few days after he learned to walk, I found him nearly 10 feet up a cyclone wire fence in my maternal grandfather's garden. I had to whip up after him and pass him down to my grandfather (that nephew is still referred to as monkeylad). I had hoped never to have that feeling of EEEEEK! again. I suppose kittens are at least better than falling …

When not causing trouble, he is a gentle delight and the girls have decided he's all right. Mostly. Here is a photo of him looking innocent: Sorry, nope, you can't, because LJ have made their photo editor completely unusable. Well done. I'll try again later once it goes back to being remotely functional. Sigh. Hey! Quicker than expected! Apparently I may edit words, or images, but not both in the same edit. Oh well, I can cope!

There is, of course, work. Let us not speak of it.

The rest of my late nightness has been caused by [livejournal.com profile] icmezzo's voice meme: I have been listening to so many people! So many more to go! It's just marvellous, before this I had not realised that for most people I don't hear a 'voice': now, I do! And so many interesting things those voices are saying! Hie ye hence! Speak up!

Hehe, when you name a cat Rusketus, which to me sounds eerily similar to "raucous", you probably cannot expect to get a comfortably sedate furry flatmate. ;D
He looks very cute and alert, btw.

Edit: Thanks a lot for the link to that fabulous voice meme. I've been enjoying it very much, and yours was one of the best. :D

What an adorable little monster. How could he do anything wrong?

Do keep reminding me that I do not have remotely the energy (nor the physical ability) to keep up with a kitten. Not even cute faces will do. I need reminding though because the survivor also needs someone to throw and wave and not be locked away in a bedroom for at least eight hours please :/ it's tempting to think another even more stressy feline would actually alleviate that pressure?!

What a dear little thing. He may cause trouble, but looking like that, I bet he's easy to forgive! Our cat is a demanding old lady who derives her chief pleasure from sitting in the bath and meowing until the tap is turned onto a steady drip. Mad cat. I'm rubbish at getting to bed early too. It should be such a simple thing to be able to do!

If you have a bath tub, you can put some ping pong balls in there, and the kitten will play with them by himself - he bats the ball up the bath tub, and then it rolls back down to him with a delicious whirring sound. It is a noisy game though, as that whirring sound is only delicious if you are a kitten, and no kitten can sit at the bath and play this without jumping around and making lots of thumping noises. I introduced a certain wizard's kittens to this game, and it got immortalised as bathball.

I take it your new kitten hasn't been pouncing/glomming/mauling the other cats? I'm dealing with that bit o' fun with Pickles right now. He pounces/gloms/mauls, and his victims scream bloody murder, and oh my lord. Guh!

I spent a lot of time with mine walking around the sitting room trailing a long piece of string. Then they discovered the remains of the Christmas nut bowl and have been entertaining themselves happily ever since.

He's absolutely adorable. Looks a bit like Puss'n'Boots wit those innocent eyes:)

I can usually amuse mine with a laser level…it makes a red dot for her to chase, or even better, a line. She loves the line, especially when I twirl it…she goes nuts trying to jump on it.
