It's unbearably awful.

I think it has cost the last of my sympathy for the US's outrageous persecution of Assange, though I still feel it for Manning and am still outraged for the late Swartz (NB Assange sympathy came with outrage for his naming of Afghans who had assisted the US, because that was not upholding freedom, that was being a lazy twat and endangering lives. God, he even ruins clear-cut stances on political issues! DAMN YOU, ASSANGE!)

Oh pfft, he's not pointy, he's potatoey!

On an unrelated matter, I am watching a replay of the tennis and desperately want Victoria Azerenka to develop laryngitis. There's no call for that sort of shrieking!

Nonono! It is BRILLIANT! Assange hates the screenplay! It's nasty to Wikileaks and Iran, he says! Also, not a wig: Cummerbund Bandersnatch is famous for having dyed his hair EVERY POSSIBLE COLOUR in pursuit of the elusive BAFTA.

Oh, for pity's sake, not bloody Cumberbatch again!

It is difficult to like Assange. It is easier to like Wikileaks. No one believes either the US aor the Swedish government, which is a pity for the women involved, whose veracity is being cast into doubt by the actions of governments. (No idea if Assange is guilty or not, but I can understand him taking it on the lam even if totally innocent,)

And the Cumberbatch hysteria turns me right off.

I can only assume that all other British actors were busy playing Americans, so he was delegated to be the Australian. I think he is rather talented, but there are sometimes better people for the roles they give him. He is usually pleasant to look at, though. Not here.

I was talking about this with Mr B earlier and we agreed that the thing that we don't like is that Assange has basically run roughshod over the legal rights of the women involved, because he is A Hero and they are probably Pawns in his narrative. It's certainly not only the governments involved who are putting them in a bad light.

That's a very good description of Assange's dismissal of the women in question. Here's a Private Eye piece from last year that sums it up very nicely:

Although, to be fair, Australian actors are busy singing in a French musical at the moment, so maybe they weren't available. How very imulti- national this post is!

Oh actually that's totally disgusting. Hate that cumberbund person in the first place, his face is icky, while Julian is quite nice really (I have a thing for blonds and the guy playing the young Julian in that other movie was hot lol Shallow much?) Definitely not going to see this movie now. Yuck and ick.

Weird, LJ spellcheck doesn't recognise 'movie' as a word... I'm not spelling it wrong am I?

Oh here have another blond...

I'm quite ambivalent about BC - I think the lad can act, but suddenly he's the flavour of the month and he's just bloody everywhere! Give a few other nice brit boys a chance, eh?

That being said - I think making a movie about Assange at all at present is ridiculous. There's too little real information (lol, ironic that, really) and definitely too little truth going on, and given that his situation legally / politically is still such a mess, it's hard to know which side of the fence the ultimate verdict regarding his role in so many things will be.

Ah well - there are worse things in the world, like the running time of the Hobbit film, and global warming (it's possible I see these as equal evils).

I hope spare cat is relaxing a bit? Must be very distressing for the poor little thing - uprooted from home and hearth and dumped with a load of angry strangers, not to mention strange food tin openers and petting devices.

:)

Remember when Epilogue Draco looked like Lucius humped a goat? Yeah, this is worse. At least Draco's clothes were fab. Did they put padding under Ben's (gorgeous) upper lip? He looks all distorted.

Nah, it is BRILLIANT. Assange, having "acquired" a screenplay, is already furious at the movie, which he says is nasty to Wikileaks and Iran (and that's a bad thing exactly how?) Here BC looks suitably dirty and unpleasant (and we know through David Leigh, the Guardian journalist on whose sofa he kipped, that Assange's personal hygiene is problematic and his BO truly awful.) I hope it will include the bit in Domscheit-Berg's book about Assange torturing his cat. Not a wig: Cummerbund Bandersnatch is famous for having dyed his hair EVERY POSSIBLE COLOUR in pursuit of the elusive BAFTA.

If this is an Assange apologia then I'm even more put off by BC than ever before. Why does he have to be such a douche, I ask you? It's so hard to enjoy Sherlock when he throws such endless shade in real life.

Huh. The world is full of conversations I've missed. When did people start agreeing Benedict Cumberbatch was unattractive? I mean, even Assange is more attractive than Cumberbatch as Assange, but I think Benedict is quite appealing.

I took as my motto when very young, "An idea is not responsible for the people who believe in it." It's served me well; I wish I could remember where I first heard or read it. I don't care for Assange at all. The piece reprinted below where he complains about "irresponsibly" leaking things about HIM was a laugh, but not terribly surprising. Everyone wants heroes, and that means whitewashing of who they really were -- Washington and Jefferson here, Martin Luther King Jr. more recently, ad infinitum. It makes me want to stand outside history and just watch. Having something like Wikileaks is, however, valuable, despite its flaws, if for no other reason than to discover that a government will censor ANYTHING which reflects badly on it, no matter how much right the people have to know and how little impact it will have on national security.

I loved your headline and laughed a lot. The picture does indeed prove it.

Too true! I wonder if the film actually IS "a Christ allegory in which the prophet of truth is forsaken by his disciples and crucified by Swedish justice", which makes this kind of sci-fi.

A friend on mine on FB posted that pic and I said "it's like H/D with terrible styling." Benedict (or as my husband calls him, Benjamin Cumberbock") is so handsome as a brunet, but SO GHASTLY as a blond, which I believe is actually his natural color.

Oh, and btw- hi there, I've been incommunicado for ages but I think of you frequently. That care package you sent these many moons ago lives on. I'm still using the body creme and Lucy (who is now 2.25) plays with the bunny all the time. She is "Mama Bunny."

He's sort of a strawberry blonde, which looks fine, but this hair suits no-one (including Assange).

And HELLO! I'VE MISSED YOU! But I assumed you were busy with that human being you made ;-) SO excited the bunny is an Approved Toy, and YAY for the creme still going. Good lord, Lucy is growing quickly! Stay shorter than me until you are 10, Lucy, and you will get a present!

WHY DOES HE RUIN EVERYTHING.

My only comfort is that Assange says the film is an "attack". Hopefully in that it portrays Manning as a sympathetic hero-type and Assange as a twat.
