I am awake, after a grand total of about 3 hours of sleep, and I am so filled with delight after The Day of the Doctor that I am not sure I can go back to bed.

No spoilers, because I know a lot of Aussies will be watching it tonight, but it is a thing of great joy and beauty and if you do not breathe a little gasp of surprise and wipe away a tear in the last five minutes, then you are Gen Y or lacking a soul.

Oh Doctor … it is the only show that I was allowed to watch as a child, you know. My father was wise.

Iloved the end credits -- brilliantly done! (Shame about the stupid voiceover for the after party, though! *grumbles*)

Voiceovers are the devil! But yes, they were lovely! I have a terrible feeling I am going to rewatch all my Who rather than finishing this Nano novel …

LOVED IT. I was in your boat as a kid - the only TV I watched was Dr. Who and Monty Python, and all the other kids thought I was weird. Well Who's weird now? Heeheehee... I didn't cry today, because technically nobody (and maybe really nobody nobody!) died, but I screamed and flapped and clapped so hard I scared the dog. :D

I confess that I have still not been able to watch the episodes in which Tennant dies. I was travelling at the time they screened, and I couldn't do it to myself when I got home. I might be up for it now. I did cry at You Know Who, though a little tear of happiness as opposed to the gallons I wept when he regenerated. And YES! SO MUCH CLAPPING!!

It's a tough ride - make sure you have tissues handy! I missed them when they first aired and was already furious at Matt Smith for being "New", but his first moments made me forgive him the loss of Tenant. A LITTLE.

Loved it! And there was a period when I was a child that Mum wouldn't let me watch it - because a few episodes gave me nightmares..... Yes I was a delicate petal with a massive imagination...still can't watch a lot of suspense/ horror stuff by myself...

I sometimes had to watch from behind a sofa AND behind a hand: I cannot believe how scared I was of the nuclear worms, which look like glow in the dark condoms when you look at them as an adult :-) And yet I was still anxious when I saw that ep again a few years back …

And yes! It was fab! So worth getting up for!

Hehe, woke up after only 4 hours of sleep here too! Oh the things you do for Doctor Who... Loved this episode!

I loved it too! Though I might have to go back to bed now: I just thought about making toast and failed to open the bread bag due to lack of coordination. Fish fingers and custard are right out.

I went back to bed and dreamed snatches of so many episodes. Just lovely. Craig Ferguson had a great song about Doctor Who with lyrics along the lines of it being the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism, and I think this episode encapsulated that perfectly.

Well thanks - now my Saturday has crumbled. I saw your post and went "Good Grief I must have just finished recording that". So off I run and start it up - I am on my way for the pee I needed to have an hour ago - I have paused the recording - all 3 are in the Tower with Rose arguing over how many died that day etc.

I'll get back to you in a while (pee then finish watching).

Sorry about that! Though not really :-) I had to sleep away a good chunk of Sunday in a bid to return to humanity after getting up at 6.40.

NO, it was totally worth it - I hurt my wrist moving heavy stuff and had to wrap it anyway so I might just as well relax with some dogs on me (to keep me anchored) and watch lots of Dr Who (I had some I needed to see again as well as the Day of). I finished all of Matt Smith's 1st season - I had reasons that I didn't get to watch a lot of TV during that time.

Oh, it was so good. Queen Elizabeth was fantastic. I loved the last few minutes, and I did get teary eyed. I knew when Clara said what she did at the very end, that it was going to be significant. I can't wait to watch it again. :) I adored Rose and her "Why can't it be both?" about the weapon/chair.

So you've never seen the one with Tennant regenerating? I'm rewatching it now, and yes, it's a tearjerker, but the episode is so wonderful that it's amazing anyway. Sad is happy for deep people. ;)

I've just never been prepared to watch it. I think if I watched it today I would just dissolve into tears. But maybe after the next regeneration, I'll be able to go back. The previous storyline with the Master nearly broke me, so it will require fortitude!

But YES! Liz I! I do love her so. She would totally stab a Zygon and then go off to thwart their evil plans. And she didn't need a man, she just wanted this one because he is eminently fanciable :-)

'Why can't it be both' really set the whole theme.

Oh, don't go to bed! I'm still playing that fun little game on Google, and I've watched the episode twice. SO AMAZING.

I am depressed because I set my PVR for it, and the schedule on the TV (which sets the PVR) was out of synch with the actual programs…so I only got the first half:(

Oh no! If you can't get it on iPlayer, there are some links to alternate sites with it on the Guardian live blog in the comments.

It's being replayed tonight in Australia, at a respectable hour. Getting up at 6.40am was punishing!

T'was wonderful. So many precious moments. I had spent the morning bemoaning the "Americanisation" of the doctor into and uber-space hero with "girlfriends" not companions over the last series, but was delighted to be able to eat my words.

Yes! I finally found a squee post. I had high hopes for Tumblr, and then all the people I knew who were Doctor Who fans on tumblr decided to hate on the episode and Moffat and my :( face came into effect.

I _adored_ this episode. It was everything I love in an episode.

Also, sands shoes and Grandad! Hee.
